Japanese, the Crazy Language – Hiragana Mnemonic

Japanese is a truly crazy language. I really think so. Not only it has two sets of alphabets – called Hiragana and Katakana.  Each set of these has nearly 50 alphabets in them.  It also boasts an incredible number of Kanji characters that are adopted from Chinese.  Now there are 1,945 of these Kanji you have to lean in the school. To top it all, you should be able to at least read between three to four thousand of them to be called well-educated.  Getting perplexed?  Good.  I am, and I was born, bred and have gone through the education system there and the whole damn language still doesn’t make sense.
For a low-down on it, Wikipedia has a very good summary of it – have a look at this page for it.

For those of you who are still interested in this worlds-most-perplexing-language, here’s a starter for you.  How to recognise and read the most basic of Japanese alphabets that is Hiragana. Have fun!

Japan, The Strange Country – Video

Hi there.  Here’s a (not so) quick into to Japan, its people, its culture and everything else.  Its content is very self-deprecating.  Take a look at tell me what you think.

Oh, and before you get angry with the content, it’s actually made by a Japanese person called Kenichi Tanaka, and is made in Japan for Japanese people.

Very Rude Building Names Found in Tokyo

You do find the silliest names attached to buildings in Japan.  Here are two of them I received recently from my pals.

The SOB building

The sign reads “Owner’s Build Naka Itabashi”.  I hope it is not a comment on the kind of guys who live there. Can you just imagine telling this address to your American friend?

Lamb Raisin Ice Cream

When it comes to culinary inventiveness (or creating plain crazy tastes), no one can top those Japanese people.

Michelin-starred UK chef Heston Blumenthal may have created the infamous “Egg and Bacon” ice cream few yeas’ back but have a look at this snapshot of an ice cream shop in Japan.  They have Lamb Raisin Ice Cream!!!
